A black screen in Iriun usually means the camera feed is not reaching the app — not a hardware fault. The most common cause is a Windows camera permission being blocked.
Fix 1 — fastest
Check Windows camera permissions
Settings > Privacy & security > Camera
# All three must be ON:
✓ Camera access
✓ Let apps access your camera
✓ Let desktop apps access your camera
# Then restart Iriun PC client and reconnect phone
Fix 2
Restart Iriun in the correct order
- Close the video app (Zoom, Teams, OBS, Discord)
- Close the Iriun PC client
- Close the Iriun app on your phone
- Reopen the Iriun PC client on Windows first
- Reopen the Iriun app on your phone — wait for connection
- Then open your video app and select Iriun Webcam
Order matters: PC client first, then phone app, then video app.
Fix 3
Check phone camera is not in use
On your phone, another app may be using the camera:
- Close all other camera apps on your phone (Camera app, Snapchat, Instagram, etc.)
- Only one app can use the phone camera at a time — Iriun needs exclusive access
- On iPhone: check the orange dot in the status bar — if lit, another app is using the camera
Fix 4
Reinstall Iriun PC client
If black screen persists after all above fixes, the virtual camera driver may be corrupt. Do a clean reinstall:
- Uninstall Iriun from Settings → Apps
- Remove from Device Manager → Cameras → Iriun Webcam → Uninstall device
- Reboot Windows
- Reinstall
IriunWebcam-2.9.5.exe
See the full clean reinstall guide.
FAQ
Black screen questions
Iriun black screen only in Zoom but works in OBS
Zoom has its own camera permission check. Go to Settings → Privacy → Camera and make sure Zoom specifically is allowed. Also try: in Zoom Video settings, switch to a different camera and back to Iriun Webcam to force a refresh.
Black screen after Windows update
Windows updates often reset the camera privacy settings. Go to Settings → Privacy & security → Camera and re-enable all three access toggles. Then restart the Iriun PC client.
